ECCT Journey of Mrs. Ros, a Lung with Brain Metastasis cancer patient

Lung with Brain Metastasis cancer

This is the story of Mrs. Ros, a 51-year-old woman from Terengganu, Malaysia who was diagnosed with lung cancer that had already metastasised to her brain. Her symptoms began early in the year with persistent headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and weight loss. Imaging revealed a cerebellar tumour and a malignant mass in her right lung.

In April, Mrs. Ros underwent a suboccipital craniotomy with tumour debulking to remove the cerebellar metastasis. The pathology confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma, favouring a lung primary. Surgery significantly relieved her neurological symptoms and marked the start of her recovery.

On 5 May, during her post-surgery recovery, Mrs. Ros started ECCT. With support from her daughter, who is a medical student, she maintained consistent daily sessions. ECCT was introduced as part of an integrative care plan to support her condition alongside targeted therapy Dacomitinib (Vizimpro) in late May, and continued steadily on the same dosage (30 mg daily, two tablets). No chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or other medications were initiated at that stage.

Her treatment regimen consisted solely of:

  1. Brain tumour surgery

  2. Dacomitinib

  3. ECCT

  4. No supplements or additional therapies

Over the next several months, her clinical progress was encouraging and measurable through serial imaging:

Lung Lesion Progression

  • March: 3.7 × 3.4 cm

  • July: 2.8 × 2.2 cm (with pleural effusion)

  • 10 July CT: Further reduction of approximately 1 cm

  • October: 1.9 × 1.3 cm — pleural effusion resolved

  • 13 November: Lung scan showed the lesion continued to shrink; brain was not rescanned yet

Symptom and Functional Improvement since starting ECCT in May, Mrs. Ros reported:

  • Good appetite and stable sleep

  • No dizziness after surgery

  • No seizures

  • No shortness of breath

  • Occasional mild chest heaviness or body aches, resolving within days

  • Normal daily activities

  • Steady balance improvement after surgery

Today, Mrs. Ros continues both ECCT and Dacomitinib with determination, showing continuous improvement:

  • Brain metastasis successfully removed

  • Lung lesion shrinking steadily from 3.7 cm → 1.9 cm

  • Pleural effusion completely resolved

  • Overall well-being stable and strong

Her story is a powerful example of how ECCT, when combined appropriately with targeted therapy and conventional medical care, can support healing, stabilise disease progression, and enhance quality of life for patients facing advanced cancer.
